DEKKADANCERS will bring to the TWB festival this year an exceptional project called The Man from Malta, which is created in the style of stand-up comedy, accompanied by dance and drawing of nudes. It is a one man show by the outstanding performer Štěpán Pechar. The evening is a ninety-minute solo in which the performer and creator in one person showcases his many talents. He will leave no one in doubt that in addition to being a great choreographer and dancer, he is also a skilled draughtsman and a charismatic storyteller. Against the backdrop of his personal story, he touches loudly and ironically on themes that are inherent in most stand-up – sex, relationships, money, male supremacy and power. Pechar has been praised for his dance performances not only in reviews, he was nominated for the Thalia Award in 2022.

“Štěpán Pechar gave an admirable performance. (…) On the basis of a personal, untouched life story of the son of a Maltese mum and a Czech dad, Pechar developed the ontogeny of contemporary toxic masculinity. And he went about it in a subtle way: from the cute stories of a pampered cub to the expressions of a perverse chauvinist tormented by rage. (…) The strength of The Man from Malta surely lay in the frankness, the volume with which Pechar confronted demons such as power, sex, porn, money and masculine superiority in his mannerisms. Quite possibly he also wrestled with himself.”
(Jana Návratová, Dance News, June 15, 2021)

“The narrative, playfulness and Pechar’s top-notch commitment kept my attention throughout and I would recommend The Man from Malta to all adepts as a textbook in the art of stand-up comedy.”
